Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

Happy Father’s Day to all our Dads, Grandfathers and Father figures who feature in the lives of the children. The role of Dads has changed over the years and is now quite different to the role that the Dads of my childhood generation played. Dads and Grandfathers in our school community are hands on, involved and invested. Your involvement in the lives of your children and grandchildren is valuable and makes a significant difference to ensuring that your children and grandchildren thrive.  Thank you to all the male figures in our school community for all that you do to support your children.  We wish you a very enjoyable day on Sunday.

Dear God,
Bless all the fathers in the world who have accepted the responsibilities of being a parent. Guide them to be outstanding role models to their children. Let them look to your example and to parent with patience, unconditional love and understanding. Amen.

The P&F Bunnings Sausage Sizzle over the weekend was a most successful fund-raising event.  My sincerest thanks to all those who helped in a variety of ways to ensure the success of the sausage sizzle.  The volunteers on the day, those who prepared the food before and those who donated items to the sausage sizzle, your support is appreciated.  I will not list all those who helped in the newsletter as I would be sure to miss someone out. However, please accept my sincere appreciation.

We look forward to the Sports Carnival on Friday.  The students have been busy preparing for their events.  Thank you to Mr Battistessa for organising the carnival and for preparing the students for their various events.  Please come along and support the students on the day. They love to have their parents cheering them on.   It is always a lot of fun and we encourage as many spectators as possible.

The canteen will be offering a lovely morning tea for parents and visitors at the Sport Day.  The morning tea is cash only, so please don’t forget to bring along some money to enjoy the special treats on offer.

WOW Week

Our inaugural Week of Wellness (WOW Week) will be held next week.  A flier advertising WOW Week was placed on Seesaw for all parents to see.  During WOW Week we encourage a slower pace of life where we can all focus on our health, wellbeing and a balance between school, work and family life.  A few important points about WOW Week:

  • There will be no set homework during the week, except for reading.
  • We encourage reading as a family – take the time to enjoy reading time together. Perhaps Mum and Dad might read some additional stories to the children during the week.
  • We encourage Waste Free Lunchboxes on Wednesday and Thursday. Please send in food that does not require plastic wrapper wastage se we can focus on wellbeing for the environment.
  • Please send in photographs of activities that your family are doing together during WOW Week. These may include; visiting the park, visiting the library or playing games together.  Photographs can be emailed to:

It is my pleasure to congratulate Year 6 student, Amelia Hughes, for receiving a Full Academic Scholarship for La Salle College, commencing in 2022.  Amelia’s Scholarship announcement is testament to the dedication of her teachers and parents and her own commitment and attitude towards her studies.  Well, done, Amelia!  This is an excellent achievement.

Scholastic Book Fair

Parents are reminded that the Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Library commencing on Friday 3rd September.  The Book Fair will be available until Tuesday 7th September.  The Book Fair will be open both before and after school.

Best wishes for the week ahead and a happy Father’s Day for Sunday.

Making Jesus Real  Week 7 Term 3

Positive thinking can help you and your child notice and appreciate the good things in your lives.

It’s easy to spend a lot of time thinking about things that have gone wrong. When you do this, these things can seem overwhelming and lead to worry and stress. But when you learn to think positively, you can keep difficult times in perspective.

And if you focus on the positives and keep the negatives in perspectives, it’s good for your happiness and wellbeing.   The more you think positively, the easier it becomes.

SAVE THE DATE! Parish School Lunch – Gift from the Parishioners of St Francis of Assisi Parish.

The parishioners of St Francis of Assisi Parish have decided to gift the school with a school and parish community lunch on Sunday 17th October to celebrate our 30th anniversary.  The parish are arranging a luncheon for all members of the school and parish community. Families are encouraged to come along and enjoy this most generous gift from the parish.

Parent Intentions and Enrolments for 2022

Each year we have families discontinue their enrolment at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School, for a variety of reasons.  In order for us to allocate places to families who are currently on a wait list for the 2022 school year, I request that families who either know they will be moving, or those families who are thinking about a possible move, to please let the school know as soon as possible.  It is important that we can offer some certainty to parents who would like their child to attend our school in 2022.
