From Principal – Term 1, Week 9

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

In normal circumstances, we would be spending the final week of the term preparing for whole school gatherings for Holy Week and Easter. Plays and liturgies would be presented to our parents, parishioners and visitors as we reflect on this most holy of weeks in our Church year.   Sadly, in our COVID-19 high case load environment whole school Holy Week events cannot go ahead. Instead, the students will spend time in their classes next week praying and reflecting on the events of Holy Week and preparing themselves for the great celebration of Easter.

As we journey with Jesus towards Holy Week, remember all those in our world today who carry heavy crosses of poverty, homelessness, and hunger.

Prayer for the Fifth Sunday of Lent

My loving Lord,
it’s so hard to love the world sometimes
and to love it the way Jesus did seems impossible.
Help me to be inspired by his love and
guided by his example.
Most of all, I want to accept that I can’t do it alone.
I need you, dear God, to give me support in this journey.
Show me how to unlock my heart
so that I am less selfish.
Let me be less fearful of the pain and darkness
that will be transformed by you into Easter joy.

COVID-19 Changes for Term 2

The situation for schools is ever changing, however, it was with much pleasure we received the news this week about plans for schools in Term 2. We look forward to welcoming our parents back onto school grounds and we look forward to welcoming parents to class assemblies, liturgies and masses. We will receive further information about Term 2 over the coming week and further details will be shared with parents.  We are mindful, however, that the situation is fluid. We will continue to implement guidelines presented to us by the Minister for Education under advice from the Chief Health Officer. We should be confident that Term 2 is looking far more positive as we approach the holidays and new term with optimism.

Covid-19 Self Reporting Portal

Thank you to our parents for continuing to use the self-reporting portal to report both positive and negative COVID-19 test results. Parents are encouraged to continue using the portal through the school holidays.  The information assists us in our planning as it gives us a clear picture of the number of students who may be away for periods of time.  Parents are reminded that it is mandatory that positive RATs are reported to WA Health. The portal is available on our website and can be accessed via the link: COVID-19 Self-Reporting Portal

Early Close

All students, from Pre-Kindy to Year Six, will finish at 12.00pm on Tuesday 5th April.  The early close will provide our teaching staff with time to conclude their parent and teacher interviews.

P&F Car Rally

I am delighted that there has been such a positive response to the P&F Car Rally to be held this weekend. Sincerest thanks to the P&F committee for organising the event.  It promises to be a lot of fun and a wonderful way for our families to get together, in a safe way, to enjoy a community event.

Easter Raffle

Easter Egg donations have been coming in over this past week and I thank parents for their generosity in supporting the P&F Easter Egg Raffle.  The raffle prizes will be drawn at the end of Week 10 and winners notified, prior to leaving for the holidays.

School Photos

A number of students missed their individual photograph, due to COVID absences.  Catch ups of individual photos will be in Term 2 when the photographers return for the class and family photos on 27th June.  All individual photos will be delivered in the school photo packs, following the Term 2 photo day.

Enjoy the weekend and I hope your football team has a win.

Warmest regards

Therese Hussey

MAKING JESUS REAL  Week 9 – FORGIVING OTHERS

Forgiveness is a gift. Christians are supposed to be known for their forgiving attitudes. We’re not supposed to run around holding grudges and making people pay for their mistakes. When we forgive someone, we are not saying that what they did was right. Rather, we are giving up our right to be angry about their wrong actions. We are leaving the problem and our hurt with God. God is the one who will judge what should happen to those who do wrong. Instead of paying back wrong for wrong, we should be kind (1 Thessalonians 5:15).

We’re supposed to forgive others because Jesus forgave us. If that’s how Jesus treats us, then that’s how we should treat others.

Fourth Sunday of Lent

Rosalie 44, is an ex-combatant who lives with her husband and seven children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Forced to join the army when she was just 15-years-old, Rosalie experienced significant trauma and hardship during her years in the military. After she was demobilised from the army, Rosalie, like other ex-combatants, was left to fend for herself in the community.

With your generous support and through our local partners, Rosalie was able to connect with other members of her community and participate in business skills training to help her to reintegrate into society.
