Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

We are looking forward to welcoming parents, grandparents, aunts and special friends to our Mother’s Day Liturgy on Friday 6th May, commencing at 9.00am in the undercover area.  This is our first school gathering for the year and it is something to celebrate.  Please bring a small plate of food to share for morning tea.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

It is most appropriate that Mother’s Day is celebrated in the month of May.  May is Mary’s month. Mary the Mother of Jesus, is a wonderful role-model to us all of the unconditional, and often suffering love of a Mother. Parenting is the most valued and worthwhile of all vocations.  It doesn’t matter if our children are aged 5, 15 or 50.  The love and care a parent has for their child does not diminish.  The responsibility may change, but we never stop worrying about them and wanting the best for them, no matter their circumstances.  Thank you to the Mothers, Grandmothers and special women in our Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School community.  The love and dedication you show to your children every day is remarkable.  You make a difference to the outcomes the school provides for your children.  Thank you!  I wish you a wonderful Mother’s Day with your loved ones.

A Prayer for Mothers

Where would we be without our mother’s love? Lord,
bless our mothers with wisdom to teach and guide their
children in a way that will help them to follow You and
to become men and women who will be pleasing in Your sight.

Give all mothers the patience to deal with the difficulties
of their job and, most of all, give them a special blessing as
they care so lovingly for the gifts that You have allowed them the honour of raising. Amen.

The P&F Mother’s Day Stall was a huge success.  The students enjoyed shopping for their Mums, and I must say, their shopping was thoughtful and considered. Thank you to the P&F committee for organising the shopping stall. Special thanks to Sheree O’Sullivan for organising the lovely selection of gifts and coordinating the stall.

Sacramental Masses

Thank you, parents, for supporting the Sacramental Commitment Masses over the weekend.  I attended the 6.00pm Mass and the church was certainly full. Thank you to our staff for preparing the students to recite their pledges with confidence. Please keep the Year 3, 4 and 6 students in your prayers as they prepare to receive their Sacrament over the coming months.

Matthew Gibney Election Polling Station Volunteers

The school premises will be used as a polling station on federal election day, 21st May.  The P&F are organising the good old “Democracy Sausage Sizzle” and a cake stall on the day.  Please click the attached link to offer your time to assist on the day. Volunteers are required for 2 hour sessions.

The event code for the sausage sizzle is available on the hard copy flier that was sent home and on class Facebook and Seesaw pages.

I wish all our families a joyful Mother’s Day and a wonderful weekend.

Warmest regards

NAPLAN

Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in NAPLAN Assessments, along with students across Australia, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Week 3.  I am confident that our students are well prepared for the assessments. We encourage the students to do their best.  We are mindful that, although the NAPLAN tests are valuable, it is one test on one day. Please make sure your children have a good night’s sleep during the week and have a healthy breakfast before coming to school.

Parent Volunteers

We are keen to welcome our parents back into classrooms as parent helpers.  We will begin with a cautious approach, with only one volunteer in classrooms at any one time.  Parent help with reading books will re-commence in Week 4.  Parents are reminded that proof of vaccination is required if volunteering at any school for more than two occasions in a week.

COVID_19 Reporting

Please continue to report positive COVID-19 test results on the CEWA portal.  Please keep us informed in a timely way if your child or a family member has COVID. Students who are close contact family members are strongly encouraged to attend school if they are well.  A negative RAT test needs to be administered and reported on the portal every day for 7 days.

Thank you for continuing to keep your children at home, if they are unwell.
