Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

Happy Father’s Day to our Matthew Gibney Dad’s, Grandads, Step-Dads and other significant Father figures.  We applaud you for the involvement you have in the lives of the children.  Our Dads are visible around the school.  Your interest in your children’s education makes such a difference to their success at school. Thank you for your support, encouragement, and love.  On Father’s Day we think of St Joseph, the earthly Father of Jesus.  Joseph would have had such love and joy as the Father of Jesus. However, like all dads, there would have been challenges.  Let’s not forget the time Jesus went missing from the crowd on the way to Jerusalem.  Joseph must have been frantic, as any Father would be if their child was missing.  Jesus was fortunately found, sometime later, preaching in the temple, much to his parents’ relief, and a possible tinge of annoyance at all the trouble he put them through.  St Joseph is a wonderful example to us about the unconditional love and support that can make all the difference to our children.

Heavenly Father,
you entrusted your Son Jesus,
the child of Mary,
to the care of Joseph, an earthly father.

Bless all fathers
as they care for their families.
Give them strength and wisdom,
tenderness and patience.

Support them in the work they have to do,
protecting those who look to them,
as we look to you for love and salvation,
through Jesus Christ our rock and defender.

It has been another busy week at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.  On Wednesday we enjoyed a long overdue visit from Liturgical Musician, Andrew Chinn.  Andrew had delayed his visit, due to COVID, numerous times over the past few years. It was wonderful to have him work with our students during music workshops and then come together for a concert we could all participate in.  Earlier this week the students enjoyed a visit from Harold the Giraffe and the team at Life Education.  There were many positive messages from Harold about keeping safe and healthy lifestyle choices.  It was wonderful to enjoy the visit from the Life Education Team after a few years of COVID interruptions.

Don’t forget to come along to the Scholastic Book Fair.  The book fair has a wide selection of books to suit all ages and interests.  Thank you to Marnie Hughes for organising the book fair, once again this year.  The fair will be available in the Library on Friday morning, during the Father’s Day breakfast, and before and after school on Monday and Tuesday.

I look forward to welcoming parents and friends to the Father’s Day Breakfast and Faction Athletics Carnival tomorrow.  Carnival days are the best fun. Please come down and support the children as they participate in their various events.  Thank you to Shannon Hewitt and staff for organising the carnival.  We invite parents to help with the setting up.  We have new marquees that are we are keen to put to good use.  The Father’s Day Breakfast will be available from 7.30am.  Don’t forget to bring some money to purchase the lovely morning teas that Mrs Honter and her volunteers will have available from the canteen.
