Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students
We thank you Lord, for this term. For our challenges, our successes, and the mistakes from which we have learnt. Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.
Give us strength and courage to do what is right: to be witnesses of our faith. Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate what others do for us, to give time and effort to help others. To be peacemakers in our family.
Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun. Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term. We thank you for our classmates, teachers, parents and a community that cares for us.
May we always be conscious of you in our lives.
We ask for your richest blessings over Mrs Nickels, Mrs Aldred and Mrs Hussey, during their leave next term. Surround them with your loving care, keep them safe and return them to us, renewed and refreshed.
Amen
Here we are at the end of another school term. It is evident, by the number of illness absentees this week, that we are all in need of a good rest. Our students and staff have enjoyed a productive term. School life is busy – there is always plenty of activity. We could not experience the joys of school life without the support of our parents. Once again, I thank all of you for your support of the students, staff and the school. We are blessed here at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School with a supportive and invested community. We indeed have a village here at our school to love, support and nurture our students.
Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.
– Henry Ford
We are a successful community because of the work our staff, parents and students can do together to ensure the well-being, and promote the potential, of each member of our community.
Reports and Parent Interviews
Mid-Year Reports will be available to parents of students from Pre-Primary to Year Six, later this afternoon. Please take the time to read through the report with your child and celebrate their successes. You could also discuss their goals for improvement. The students have worked hard during the Semester, and they each have something to celebrate.
Parents are reminded that they can make time to speak to their class teacher about the Mid-Year Reports at any time, once school resumes in Term Three. Our teachers are generous with their time and will make time available for parent interviews when requested.
Staffing Term Three
We have a few staff away next term on Long Service Leave. Mrs Nickels, Mrs Aldred and I will be away for part or all of the term. Staffing changes are:
- Mathew Laurenson – Music Teacher for Term Three.
- Keighley Malcolm – Year One Teacher Week 1-4.
- Karen Keddie – Principal Week 1-5
- Jessamy Bettridge – Year 4 Teacher Week 1-5

Thank you for welcoming Mathew, Keighley, and Mary to our school community. We wish them all an enjoyable association with our school.
Mrs Karen Keddie – Short-Term Principal
Please direct any queries to Mrs Keddie, Short Term Principal, during the first five weeks of the term. Karen will reply to queries from parents in a timely way. Thank you for supporting Karen as Principal during my absence.
After School Sports with MBA
MBA Sports coaching will commence after school sports each Monday, once again in Term Three. A flyer with details about registering for Term Three is available in this newsletter.
Week 10 Gallery
The Kindy and Pre-Primary students enjoyed a visit by SciTech this week. The activities provided a great deal of scientific inquiry for our young students.
Term Three Planner
A Term Three Planner is attached to this newsletter. Please keep an eye on dates that are important for your children. The planner is a good point of reference for events during the term.
P&F Adventure Novel Fundraiser
The Adventure Novel fundraiser has been extended to the end of Week One, 21 July. Adventure Novels can be purchased via CDF Pay. All money raised will go towards P&F projects for 2023. The Adventure Novel is a fun read for children as it will feature a few of the staff. Please order your copy soon.
Holiday Best Wishes
I wish all our families an enjoyable and relaxing holiday break. I hope you get time to sleep in, play games together and enjoy all that the winter weather has to offer in our beautiful State of Western Australia. Those of you who are travelling, please travel safely and enjoy your time away. I will be away for the first five weeks of the term returning on 21 August.
The students will return for Term Three on Monday 17 July.
Have a wonderful holiday break.
Warm regards
Therese
