Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

May – A Month Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary

The month of May is traditionally considered the month of Mary, a month especially dedicated to devotion to Our Lady, the Mother of God and the Mother of all of us. In May, we celebrate Mother’s Day, and it is only fitting that we spend a whole month celebrating especially the Mother who is a model of all mothers, the Mother God chose for His own Son.

This is a month to grow in devotion to Mary as Our Mother.  At the foot of the cross, Jesus said to His mother, who was standing with the beloved disciple, “Woman, behold your son.” And then to the beloved disciple, “Behold your mother.”  And then, the Gospel tells us, “From that hour the disciple took her into his home.”  (John 19:26-27) In the month of May, Jesus invites us in a special way to take Mary into our homes, to show her a special honour, to receive her as our Mother in the spiritual life, and to let her lead us closer to the heart of Jesus.

“We have a mother in Heaven. And the Mother of God, the Mother of the Son of God, is our Mother. He himself has said so. He made her our Mother when he said to the disciple and to all of us: “Behold, your Mother!”. We have a Mother in Heaven. Heaven is open, Heaven has a heart. ”

Opening of the Artist In Residence Mosaic Project – FAITH PLACE JOURNEY

We were delighted to formally launch the Artist In Residence Mosaic Art Project earlier this week.  Fr Joseph came along to formally bless the artwork, and Mrs Kaciuba, representing the Parents and Friends Association, who generously sponsored the project, came along to unveil the artwork. The project, Faith Place Journey, represents our story, history, place and faith journey.  It is a bold statement that stands proudly at the entrance of our school.  The mosaic reminds all who enter that we are a faith community, built on Whadjuk Noongar land, dedicated to ensuring we are a school where all are ”Under God’s Protection.”

Sincerest thanks to our artist, Carolyn White, project coordinator, Karen Keddie, the P&F, Mr Steve Vajas, parent helpers and staff for supporting this project.

Most of all we thank and congratulate our students, who have contributed to the project.  We hope that they will look back with pride, over the coming years, at the small part of the mosaic that they have contributed to.

Parish Mega Plant Stall – From Parish Representative Clare Arnold

To the families and staff of Matthew Gibney.

I invite you to support the Mega Plant stall at St Frances of Assisi Church this Saturday in the car park from 8am to 2pm, with all funds for the new Parish Centre Development.

Come buy a plant of two the prices start at just $2.00 for some lovely succulents. Prices vary with the size and variety and some are as big as Frangipani shrubs.

If plants are not your thing, come anyway to show your support by enjoying a cuppa, which costs only $2.00.

Clare Arnold your Matthew Gibney representative from the Parish Council. Thank you.

There is a lot going on this weekend.  Not only are we nervously hoping for a much-longed-for win for the Dockers and Eagles, but we are also gifted with the spectacle of the Coronation of King Charles.  I wish you happy viewing whichever you choose over the weekend.

I look forward to welcoming parents and friends to the Mother’s Day Event on Thursday 11th May.

Warm regards

Therese
