Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

I have been away these past few days completing a Quality Catholic Education School Review at another school.  I spoke to the students on Monday morning at our weekly gathering and informed the students that I would be away visiting another school.  One of our Year Three students put their hand up to ask me if I would be checking to see if the children at that school knew a lot about God and Making Jesus Real, as we do.  This was a delightful comment from one of our young students and reinforced just how much our students and staff value our Making Jesus Real program.  At school over this past week, I have witnessed students and staff Making Jesus Real in a variety of ways.  Our students and staff welcomed a new student into the Year 3 class with genuine kindness and care; a Year 4 student organised the fundraising and awareness day for Cystic Fibrosis; our teachers organised and hosted a social afternoon for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; a staff member coordinated the Matthew Gibney Pantry – these are just a few of the ways we have witnessed members of our community Making Jesus Real over the past week.  We should be proud of the way our community live their faith.  It is a wonderful testament to what we are as a Catholic School community.

First Eucharist Preparation

Please continue to keep the Year 4 students, and their parents and teachers, in your prayers as they spend the next two weeks preparing to receive Jesus in Holy Eucharist for the first time on 11th June.  The students participated in a retreat experience this week, facilitated by youth leaders from 24/7 Youth Ministries.  Thank you to the teachers, catechists, and parents for working with the students to ensure they are fully prepared to receive the sacrament for the first time.

Dear Lord

We pray for the children who are preparing to receive the sacrament of First Communion.
Please bless them with wisdom and strength as they prepare to grow in faith.
We ask that you give him a thirst for knowledge,
so that they may learn all they can about your love and grace.
We pray that you help them to become more like you: loving, forgiving, and compassionate.

Amen

P&F Adventure Novel Project

The P&F is organising a personalised Adventure Novel fundraiser to coincide with Book Week in Term Three.  Students will vote for the staff they would like to be featured in the novel about an adventure at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.  Please keep a lookout for information about the novel that will be sent home with all students next week.

Gilbert’s Fresh in Midland has recently donated $120 to the school as part of the “Shop For Your School” program.  Parents who shop at Gilbert’s should let the cashier know so points can be tallied to go towards a donation to the P&F.
