Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
Here is the land, here is the sky.
Here are my friends and here am I.
We thank the Whadjuk Noongar people
for the land on which we play and learn.
Hands up, hands down
We’re on Noongar ground.
Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students,
Lord, as we start a new semester, make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.
Thank you for the gift of each new day and the assurance that You walk with us at every step.
Thank you for the gifts of creativity and uniqueness, and the energy to put them to good use.
May all that we are today, all that we try to do today, may all our encounters, reflections,
even our frustrations and failings, be placed in your hands.
May the work we do and the way we do it, bring new hope,
new life, and courage to all in our community.
Welcome back for another busy term ahead. Term 3 has started well, and it was lovely to see the children returning after the holidays, refreshed and ready for learning.
Our New Carpark
Many thanks to our community for your support and patience as we redevelop the carparking area. We are expecting the new carpark to be ready in the next few weeks, giving us 22 new bays. Please continue to use the drop-off and pick-up facility where possible to minimise congestion.
Uniforms
Thank you to all the parents who have labelled uniforms for the beginning of Term 3. If you purchase 2nd hand uniforms or from another parent, please ensure that you change labels and write your child’s name on the new jacket or jumper. It is amazing how many pieces of uniform we find in the Lost Property with students who left years ago!
Staffing Term Three
We have a few staff away this term on Long Service Leave. Mrs Nickels, Mrs Aldred and Mrs Hussey will be away for part or all of the term. Staffing changes are:
- Mathew Laurenson – Music Teacher for Term Three.
- Keighley Malcolm – Year One Teacher Weeks 1-4.
- Jessamy Bettridge – Year 4 Teacher Weeks 1-5
- Mary Coates – Challenge Group Teacher Weeks 1-5
- Shannan Watt and Shannon Hewitt – Digital Technology Teachers Weeks 1-5.
Thank you for welcoming Mathew, Keighley, and Mary to our school community. We wish them all an enjoyable association with our school.
Religious Education Assessment
Our Year 3 & 5 students will be participating in the newly renamed “Religious Education Assessment” in Week 3. The purpose of the assessment is to provide individual schools with a snapshot of student performance in Religious Education. This online assessment is a curriculum-based assessment that reflects and supports the progressive nature of the K-12 Religious Education units. The assessment focuses on students’ ability to recall content about the Catholic faith and their knowledge and understanding of Religious Education. It is not designed to measure a student’s faith.
NAPLAN 2023
All Year 3 and Year 5 students will be going home today with their NAPLAN results that they completed in March 2023. The assessment will look a bit different this year, so please read the information sheet attached to the results carefully as students will be placed within four new proficiency levels of Exceeding, Strong, Developing or Needs Additional Support. NAPLAN tests are ONE aspect of assessment and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. If you would like to discuss the results further, please book a meeting with your child’s teacher.
P & F Bunning Sausage Sizzle
Our hardworking P&F will once again be holding a Sausage Sizzle at Midland Bunnings on Saturday 5th of August. Information regarding the event will be sent on Friday 21st via SEESAW.
Please consider either donating supplies for the day or volunteering for 2 hours to assist the P&F.
Have a wonderful week,
Kind regards,
Karen Keddie
