Here is the land, here is the sky.

Hands up, hands down
We’re on Noongar ground.

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

It has been wonderful to be back at school and to catch up with the staff, students and parents after my 5 weeks away.  It has been even more terrific to come back to everything left so smoothly.  I am most grateful to Karen Keddie and Christina Zurzolo for their leadership of our school during my absence.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Congratulations to Ms Sheldrick, and the Year 6 class, for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation with such reverence at Mass over the weekend.  Fr Albert, our visiting priest, was most complimentary of the students, the choir and the congregation for a joyful Confirmation celebration. Special thanks to Mrs Keddie, Ms Zurzolo and Mr. Laurenson for working with Ms Sheldrick to ensure such a lovely occasion.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Year 3 students receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation later this term, came together for a workshop, along with their parents and the parish children, earlier this week.  The workshop provided the students and parents an opportunity to come together to discuss Reconciliation and why it is important that we are in the right relationship with each other.  Forgiveness is essential in our relationship with God and with each other.  Please keep the Year 3 students, their families and teachers, in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament in the final week of this term.

Jesus,
As they prepare to receive this precious sacrament of Reconciliation,
May our children come to know you,
the one true loving and merciful God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
May your Holy Spirit help them to grow in faith,
hope, and love, so they may know Your peace, truth, and goodness.
Amen.

Book Week Celebrations

What a wonderful Book Week celebration we enjoyed today!  The standard of creativity of our students’ costumes was fabulous.  Sincerest thanks to our parents for working with the students to be so well prepared for a happy and creative Book Week Parade.  It was such a lot of fun.   Huge thanks to the P&F for supporting the parade by donating the book vouchers for each class.  I hope you enjoy this gallery of Book Week Parade photos.

Car Park Development

Thank you for your patience as we complete the car park development.  The footpaths should be completed this weekend.  The trees will be planted early in Term 4, once the reticulation has been connected.  There should be plenty of car bays now available for parents to park in.  The overflow area can continue to be used.  Please avoid parking on the grassed verge on Worrell Avenue near the driveway entry.  It is obstructing for cars coming off the roundabout to enter the school.  The new carpark, with footpaths available on either side, should assist in ensuring the safety of our children.

Kindy/PP Shed Extension

The shed in the Kindy and PP play area is in great need of an extension.  The shed extension will take place during the holidays.  Before this work can begin, we need to remove the shade sail, ready to place it over the bike path, a little later in the year.  The shade sail is being removed on Friday morning.  I am sure the Pre-Primary students are going to enjoy all the action as the contractors are here taking down the shade sail.

Congratulations!

Amelia from Year 2 participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge and read a total of 54 books.  Great job, Amelia, and congratulations on receiving your award.

Father’s Day Breakfast and Faction Athletics Carnival – Friday 1st September

The annual Faction Athletics Carnival for students from PP to Year 6 will be held on Friday 1st September.  The Carnival will follow the P&F Father’s Day Breakfast.  We hope some dads can join us following the breakfast to assist with the set-up of the carnival.

Mrs Honter, and her volunteers, are providing a morning tea for parents and spectators at the carnival.  Please make sure you have cash as the morning tea is cash only.

The Scholastic Book Fair will commence in the Library on Friday 1st September, during the Father’s Day Breakfast. The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to stock up on Christmas presents at a reasonable price.   Sincerest thanks once again this year to Marnie Hughes for organising the annual fair.

MGCPS Dads Camp Over at School

The MGCPS Dads group are organising a camp out at school (Dads only – no children) on Friday 8th September commencing at 5.00 pm.  A flier advertising the campout is in this newsletter.  We hope as many dads as possible can come along and enjoy each other’s company.  Thanks to the dads’ group for organising the campout.

Australian South Sea Islanders National Recognition Day

Today, 25th August, we celebrate Australian South Sea Islanders as a distinct Australian cultural group.  The South Sea Islanders have a history that is rich in tradition and culture and, as all Australian cultural groups, they add richness to the diversity of our country.

Welcome to Teaching Practice Student, Brooke Keenan

Next week we welcome Teaching Practice student, Brooke Keenan, who will be completing her university practice in the Year 4 class.  Please welcome Brooke when she attends next week.

Evacuation Drill

Next Monday all students and staff will participate in an Evacuation Drill.  It is important that we have regular drills to check that our procedures are working smoothly.  Please discuss the drill with your children if you feel it may be necessary.

Week 7

Next week is looking quite busy.  We have the CSAC Meeting, P&F Meeting, Father’s Day Breakfast, Scholastic Book Fair and Faction Carnival.  Please keep a look out for Seesaw messages from teachers and SMS messages as they come through next week to remind parents about the events for the week.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Therese

School News

Good News

“Year Five students were so immersed in the wonders and magic of science last week.

They dove into so many exciting experiments, one being to design and test a pop stick catapult.

We have some future engineers in the making – some even shot their projectiles up to 4 metres.

Science is COOL!”
