Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School would like to acknowledge the
Traditional Owners of the land, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation
and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
Here is the land, here is the sky.
Here are my friends and here am I.
We thank the Whadjuk Noongar people
for the land on which we play and learn.
Hands up, hands down
We’re on Noongar ground.
Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students
Welcome Back
I hope all our families and staff enjoyed quality family time during the school holidays. It has been a joyful first week back to school, especially as we have focused on our mental health during World Mental Health Week. The students have enjoyed a more relaxed dress this week, especially the comfort of wearing their sneakers to school every day. Crazy Sock Day was fun! Who would have thought there could be such a creative approach to sock-wearing? During Mental Health Week we think about the importance of making meaningful connections. Children thrive in communities, and connection is vital for their wellbeing. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends, schoolmates, teachers, church and parish – this can support our mental health and sense of wellbeing.
Loving God, we pray for children around the world who are affected by mental health issues.
We pray no child would feel stigmatised or alone because of mental health.
We pray particularly for the world’s most vulnerable children who face mental health issues as well as the day-to-day battles of poverty. We pray especially, at this time, for the children of Israel, Gaza and Ukraine. They are innocent victims in the troubles of their country.
Keep all children safe and loved.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Congratulations
On behalf of our school community, I extend congratulations to Mrs Hewitt, who is expecting a new baby in Term One of 2024. This is an exciting time for Shannon, Kyle and Aria as they prepare for the new arrival into their family. Mrs Hewitt will be with us until halfway through Term One.
Referendum Polling Booth Cake Stall
Please support the P&F by coming along to vote in the referendum on Saturday at the school polling booth. The P&F will have a cake stall with lots of wonderful treats on sale for parents and children. Please promote the Matthew Gibney Polling Booth amongst family and friends.
Welcome Back Mrs Aldred
This week we welcome back Mrs Aldred from her long service leave. We have enjoyed hearing all about Mrs Aldred’s travels and adventures during her time away.
Holiday Works
Parents may have noticed the extension on the Kindy and Pre-Primary shed. The shed extension has been completed during the holidays to create more room for safe storage and to provide a designated space for the bikes and scooters. Shelves will shortly be installed and the tape removed. New chalkboards will shortly be installed on either side of the shed door for the children to enjoy.
