Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students
Our very best wishes to the Year 6 students as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday evening at St Francis of Assisi Parish Church. In Confirmation, the students, along with the Parish Catechist candidates, will receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation is a significant step in the faith journey of these students, their sponsors and parents. We send our blessing to them and pray that they will be enriched in faith, joy and love as they are transformed by the graces of God and the Holy Spirit.
We thank Monsignor Tim Corcoran and Fr Joseph Ratnaraj, for celebrating the Sacramental Mass, and for their support of the students in their preparation. Sincerest thanks to Miss Zurzolo, who has worked hard to prepare the students to receive the sacrament. Thank you to Mrs Theseira and the Parish Catechists, Mrs Keddie and the staff for their preparation and support. I am most grateful to the Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School students who are coming along to sing in the choir and Mrs Aldred for preparing the music. We look forward to a joyous Confirmation Mass.
Prayer for a Child’s Confirmation
Creator Spirit, strengthen this child with your gifts of grace,
to love and serve as a disciple of Christ.
Grant that s/he may grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ.
Fill her/him with the joy of your presence.
Increase in her/him the fruit of your Spirit:
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of love,
patience and gentleness, the spirit of wonder and true holiness.
Oklahoma- Musical Excerpt for Catholic Performing Arts Festival
As I prepare this newsletter the excitement is mounting for the Year 5 and 6 students’ performance of an excerpt of Oklahoma for the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. An adjudicator from the Catholic Arts Festival will be in attendance to comment about the performance. The students have worked hard, with Mrs Aldred, and their teachers, and their hard work is a testament to the quality of the performance. Participation in the creative arts enriches the education experience for our students and we wish them all the best for Friday’s performance. Parents and friends are reminded that they are invited to attend. Morning tea will follow the performance.
Book Week
Book Week, a celebration of the enjoyment of Literature, commences next week. The main event for Book Week is, of course, the Book Week Parade. The Parade will be held on Thursday 26th August, commencing at 9.15am and all students and staff, from Kindy to Year 6, will participate. Students are invited to dress up as a character from a book of their choice and have the book with them as they parade their costume. Book vouchers will be presented to students’ from each class who demonstrate creativity, imagination and effort with their costume choice. Once again, parents are invited to come along. The theme for Book Week 2021 is, “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.”
It promises to be a lot of fun.
Bunning Sausage Sizzle – 28th August
The P&F Bunnings Sausage Sizzle is a significant fund raiser for the school. Money raised will go towards the 30th anniversary nature playgrounds. The sausage sizzle will be at Midland Bunnings on Saturday 28th August. A flier advertising the sausage sizzle and asking for parent volunteers, is available on Seesaw. Please put your name down for a rostered session, if you can. Parents are reminded to not share the event code on social media.
We have a busy few weeks coming up. Please keep an eye on the dates below and on the website. I look forward to welcoming parents to the Oklahoma Musical performance tomorrow morning and to the Book Week Parade next Thursday morning.
This is a crucial weekend for both the Eagles and Dockers. Best wishes to both WA teams as I am sure we would all love to see a WA team in the final 8.
Best wishes for the week ahead.
