Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students
Parents, students and staff have been working hard preparing for our Matthew Gibney Day celebrations. It looks as though we will be blessed with fine weather to enjoy all that the day has to offer. We are anticipating a good crowd to help us celebrate our 30th anniversary year. The day commences with Mass at 9.00, followed by the playground opening, open classrooms, morning tea and the Matthew Gibney Day Concert. The day will conclude with the P&F Colour Run. Please come along for as much of the day as you can manage. We would dearly love for our guests to join us for Mass to commence the day. The celebration of the Mass is our opportunity to thank God for the gifts he has bestowed upon us as we celebrate 30 years of our thriving school community.
I take this opportunity to thank our staff, parents and students for their assistance in preparing for the Matthew Gibney Day celebrations. It has been a huge effort by all concerned.
Welcome to our Grandparents
A special welcome to our grandparents at the celebrations tomorrow. We are blessed in our community to enjoy the participation and involvement of grandparents in all aspects of school life. Grandparents are valued members of our families and communities because they have so many stories, wisdom and experiences from their own lives to share. Often children will listen to their grandparents even when they are not listening to their own parents. Thank you to our Matthew Gibney grandparents for all you do. Your love of your grandchildren is appreciated by our community.
Happy World Teacher’s Day
World Teacher’s Day is celebrated in Australia on 29th October. Due to our Matthew Gibney Day celebrations we will be having a staff celebration on 28th October. World Teacher’s Day is a day of recognition for all staff who work in schools. All staff working at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School are here because of their dedication to the wellbeing of children. All staff contribute to ensuring that our children have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. The staff at our school are a team who always work together in the best interests of our children. On your behalf, I thank them for their dedication and sense of service in doing this most important work of God, in developing and nurturing the young people of the future.
Waste Free Wednesday
Thanks to an initiative from Emmy, we are commencing Waste Free Wednesdays for the rest of this year. Waste Free Wednesdays is an opportunity for families to think about reducing the waste in student lunch boxes. There are plenty of options available now for waste free lunches. Please try and avoid wrappers and plastic waste products on Wednesdays. We will avoid putting out the bins and do this little bit to encourage our students to think about what they can do to reduce their waste footprint on our environment.
On Monday 1st November we celebrate the Feast of all Saints. All Saints Day is a day to remember and venerate saints from around the world and throughout history– not only those known and canonised, but also all unknown as well. It is a day for us to recognise the saints in our own families and communities. There are many people, who live saintly lives through their strong faith and through the way they witness Jesus in all aspects of their lives. I am sure we can all recognise someone we know, or have known, who displays saintly qualities of Gospel values including; kindness, compassion and forgiveness. We can all strive to be saints everyday as we make Jesus real to others.
Prayer for All Saints Day
They left their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come.
Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone before us.
Bless the memories of your saints, God.
May we learn how to walk wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love.
I look forward to welcoming parents and visitors to our Grandparents and Matthew Gibney Day of celebrations tomorrow morning.
Best wishes for the week ahead.
