From Principal – Term 3, Week 8

Sep 8, 2022

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

Today you may have noticed staff wearing yellow in recognition of R U OK? Day. It is a special day on which we are encouraged to ask others, “Are you OK?”. It’s a wonderful concept that is as relevant to Christians as anyone else in our society. It is in checking in with each other that we can make a difference to someone else’s day. Our students and staff check in with each other often.  In asking someone if they are ok, we are living the example of Jesus in showing kindness, compassion and empathy for others.  This is what it means to truly make Jesus real.

This week is also National Child Protection Week. The week is a national campaign to highlight and educate the community that every child should be able to grow up safe. The campaign runs from Sunday 4 September through to Saturday 10 September 2022. This year the focus is “Every Child in every community needs a fair go.” As a Catholic school, this focus provides an opportunity to emphasis our strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of young people in our care and the important role they play to help nurture safe environments at school, online , at home and in the community.

Dear Lord,

Teach me to reach out to you in my need

and help me to lead others to you by my example.

Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit

that I may serve you with all my strength.

Touch gently this life which you have created, now and forever.

Amen

Athletics Carnival

What a wonderful day we had last Friday for our Faction Athletics Carnival.  It was terrific to see so many parents and supporters coming along to cheer the students as they participated.  The encouragement our students showed to each other during the carnival was a pleasure to see.  Everyone participated with a strong sense of positivity and excellent sportsmanship.  Thank you to Mrs Hewitt and all the staff, and parent volunteers, for coming together to make the day so enjoyable.

Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival

It is my pleasure to announce that the recent Year 4, 5 and 6 musical performance of Little Red Riding Hood has been successful in achieving an Award Of Excellence from the adjudicators.  Congratulations to Mrs Aldred for this wonderful result.

Welcome Mrs Julie West

This week we welcome Mrs Julie West as Administration Officer. Mrs West will be working every day for the next few weeks as she becomes familiar with her role and starts to get to know our staff, students and parents.  Please pop into the office and introduce yourselves to Julie, when you get a chance.

I look forward to welcoming parents and friends to the Year 1 Assembly and Merit Award presentations on Friday 9th September.  The Year 1 students have been working hard to prepare an entertaining assembly for their visitors.

Fingers crossed the Dockers pull another great win out of the bag when they face Collingwood on the weekend

Best wishes for the week ahead.

Warm regards
