From Principal – Term 4, Week 4

Nov 3, 2022

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students

This Week at Matthew Gibney

What a busy week we have had at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.  The annual Grandparents Day and Matthew Gibney Day last Friday was hugely successful.  We catered to 180 guests – a great achievement.  It was wonderful to see such a crowd join us to begin the day with a celebration of Mass.  Thank you to Michelle Steward and her team of helpers for the lovely morning tea.  Thank you to the staff for preparing the students for such an enjoyable concert.  It is on days like this that we appreciate all that is special about our school community.

The Inter School Athletics Carnival this year included 8 participating schools. We were delighted to come 3rd in the overall placement for the day.  A wonderful effort from all our participating students.  Sincerest thanks to Mrs Hewitt for organising the day.  Special thanks to Jodie Capobianco and the P&F helpers, for the sausage sizzle.  We received wonderful praise from the other schools for the catering on the day.

Year 2 Prayer Liturgy

It was my pleasure to join the Year 2 students, Mrs Brescacin, and parents and grandparents, as they lead us in a beautifully prayerful and reflective liturgy to celebrate the Family of God. The students are well-informed about the values that are required for us to be loving members of God’s family.

Year 6 Camp

The Year 6 students will be attending the Leadership Camp to Busselton next week, departing on Tuesday 8th November.  The camp is a highlight for our graduating class, and we wish them happy and safe camp adventures during the week. Special thanks to Christina Zurzolo, Year 6 Teacher, for all her hard work in preparing the camp for the students.  Thanks also to Jen Moore for coming along as a supporting staff member.  I appreciate the additional responsibilities that the staff take on to attend camp as they care for the children for the duration of their time away.  Please follow our Facebook page for daily camp updates next week.

Wellness Week

Thank you for supporting Wellness Week.  It was terrific to see several families commence the week with a walk and talk around the oval.  The students have been enjoying the daily lunchtime music and we now look forward to our family picnic lunch on Thursday.

Cybersafe Workshop Postponed

The Cybersafe Workshop planned for this week has been postponed until Term One 2023.  A date will be advertised shortly.  Please save the date.  We hope that the revised Term One date will be more suitable for our parents to attend.

The Feast of All Souls – November 2nd

Earlier this week Mrs Keddie lead the students in a prayer service to commemorate the Feast of All Souls.  The feast, following All Saints Day, is one in which we pray to remember those who have died.  We pray for our own loved ones and those who may not have friends and family to pray for them.

Dear God, We thank you for the lives of our loved ones who have died.

We ask you to care for those who are missing them at this time.

May we always remember your promise that, one day we will all be together in heaven.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please join us for the Merit Award Assembly on Friday, commencing at 9.00am.

Best wishes to families who are attending the Father and Kids Camp on the weekend. Keep safe and well (and don’t forget the suncream) and enjoy the time away together.

Best wishes for the week ahead. Warm regards

Therese
