Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students
Blessings for Easter
Our school term ends this week as our journey towards the great celebration of Easter continues. We commenced Holy Week this week with beautifully reflective and prayerful liturgies, presented by the classes to commemorate the events of Holy Week, and concluding today with the Stations of the Cross. The key events of Holy Week, from Palm Sunday to Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday reflect the unconditional love that Christ has for each and every one of us. I hope that the Easter period will be a happy and holy time for you and your family, full of Christ’s blessings.
With so much happening in our world, the Resurrection of Christ and the Easter story call us to be people of peace, joy, compassion, respect, forgiveness and prayer.
Blessings to all our families for joy and peace of Christ’s love at Easter.
We pray for the Church and for the world: that God may grant us the gifts of courage, compassion and wisdom as we face challenging circumstances together.
We pray for peace throughout the world: that the Risen Lord will turn hearts from violence and open new paths to peace, and justice.
Amen
Holy Week Liturgies
Thank you to our staff for preparing the students to present such meaningful and reflective Holy Week Liturgies during this week. Thank you to our parents for coming along and supporting the students. We look forward to the final presentation, the Stations of the Cross, presented by our Year 5 and 6 students.
Thank you to Michelle Steward and her helpers for preparing the lovely morning tea to celebrate the end of a successful first term at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.
Easter Egg Raffles
Thank you to the P&F for preparing the Easter Egg Raffles for the classes. Thank you for organising the Easter Eggs that were delivered to all students on the last day of the term. The children were very excited to receive their goodies!
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Matthew Gibney Swim Team at the interschool carnival last week. The school came third overall – an excellent result for just our second interschool carnival. It was terrific to see some excellent results on the day. Congratulations to Abbey, Brody and Hunter for their championship awards. Congratulations to all those who participated with such sportsmanship and encouragement of each other.
ANZAC Day
The students will commemorate ANZAC Day with a service on Friday 28th April commencing at 9.00 am. Parents and visitors are welcome to join us. Please add the date to your calendar.
Term Two Calendar
A Term Two Calendar is included with the newsletter. A hard copy is also coming home today. Please keep a copy somewhere handy to refer to during the term. Please understand that as much as we try to keep dates accurate, changes do happen from time to time. Parents will be kept informed of changes.
Winter Uniforms Term Two Delayed Start Option – 15th May
At the commencement of Term Two, we can continue to have warm weather. Although we traditionally require Winter Uniforms to be worn in Term Two, we will have a phase-in period of three weeks for those who find it too warm for the Winter Uniform. This applies to all students but may be more applicable to the boys who are required to wear long trousers. The phase-in period from Summer to Winter Uniform will be for the first three weeks of the term. All students will be required to wear their full Winter Uniform from Monday 15th May.
Winter Long Trouser Option for Girls and Winter Jumper Sleeve Inserts
Parents are reminded that commencing in Term Two there will be an option for the girls to wear Winter trousers for their school uniform. Parents are also reminded that we have sleeve inserts available for the school jumpers for students who find the jumpers itchy. Please see Lisa in the Uniform Centre for ordering both the girls’ trousers and the jumper sleeve inserts.
After-School Sports Term Two
MBA Sports is offering an after-school sports club, commencing in Term Two. The club will be for students from Year 1-6 and will be on Monday afternoons, 3.10-4.10 pm. MBA will allocate coaches to the school to run the sports sessions. Registration is required and numbers are limited. Please register using the contact details available on the flier that is in the newsletter.
End of Term
Sincerest thanks to staff, parents, and students for a successful Term One. We have enjoyed a busy and productive term with a variety of activities and events for students and families. I wish all our community a safe and happy holiday and best wishes for the blessings of a joyful Easter.
Term Two commences on Wednesday 26th April.
Warm regards
Therese
