From Principal – Term 1, Week 5

Mar 2, 2023

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

Kindy and Pre-Kindy Enrolments 2024

Current families with young children wishing to commence Kindy or Pre-Kindy in 2024 are strongly encouraged to collect an enrolment pack from the office and return the enrolment application as soon as possible.  We can not allocate places for enrolment for students who have not returned forms.  Interviews for Kindy 2024 will take place in the final weeks of this term.  Pre-Kindy 2024 interviews will take place early in Term Two.

Mosaic Art Project

We are into the second week of the Artist in Residence Project and the mosaic is coming together beautifully.  It has been wonderful to see so many parents joining us to assist.  We have another few weeks on the project before the panels are displayed on the front wall and we can launch the wonderful work of our students, staff and artist, Carolyn White.

Cybersafe Workshop for Parents

Appropriate use of online apps, including social media apps designed for children, has required some discussion with students during this past week.  We all need as much support and guidance as we can to navigate the cyber world safely for our children. Parents and friends are reminded about the Cybersafe Workshop on Thursday 16th March in the library commencing at 6.30pm.  The workshop will assist parents in ensuring their children are safe in navigating the cyber world. At least one parent from each family is strongly encouraged to attend.  The evening will commence with refreshments at 6.30pm. Please register via the link: https://form.jotform.com/230531509065854

  • Salsa Spuds: potato skins with mild salsa sauce, cheese, and sour cream.

New this term:

  • Spring rolls
  • beef sliders
  • survival packs (popcorn, vege sticks, cheese and crackers)

Medical Information – Asthma

It is essential that Asthma Action Plans are updated annually and signed by a doctor or practice nurse. There are several Asthma Plans that are no longer in date.  Please return updated Asthma Plans to the office as soon as possible.

Request for Report and NAPLAN Test Copies

The office staff are always happy to accommodate parent requests for copies of school reports and NAPLAN tests required for secondary school interviews and enrolments.  Please give the office staff a few days to organise your request.  It takes time to locate the necessary documents and, as we often have only one person in the office, a few days notice is required.

Finance Officer

A new Finance Officer has been employed to commence in Term Two.  In the meantime, Flavia Lenzo will step into the Finance Officer role for the remainder of Term One.  Flavia will be working in this role on Monday, Thursday and Friday.  Louell Renzullo will return in Term Two to work with the newly appointed Finance Officer to ensure a smooth handover.  The new Finance Officer will be introduced to our community in Term Two.

Lent

During Lent, we take up practices that help us to become aware of and responsive to the needs of others. The three traditional practices of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. A commitment to these practices during Lent leads to an awareness of God and a conversion of the heart.

Prayer for Lent

God our Father, we know that you hear the cries
of all those who suffer.
During this season of Lent hear us as we pray
for those who suffer unjustly
so that their plight might be relieved.
We pray also for their oppressors
that they will have a change of heart
and see the error of their ways.
May they use their power for the good of all.
We pray for ourselves
that we might have the compassion
and the courage to do whatever we can
to alleviate the suffering
and to address the causes of that suffering.
We ask you this through Christ, our brother.

Amen.

Please enjoy the long weekend. It promises to be fine weather.  We are at the halfway point of the term and it is timely that the students and staff can enjoy an additional day off.  The weeks are flying by and, dare I say it, it will soon be Easter.  The Chocolates Fundraiser has been a terrific success, thanks to the P&F committee for their organising.

Best wishes for the week ahead.
