Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

Happy Mother’s Day

As Mother’s Day approaches, I take the opportunity to thank all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts and special friends of the children of Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School.  Thank you for all that you do to care for, nurture and love your children.  Our students are confident, happy, and positive little people.  You have brought them up to be the fine young people they are, and for that, we say ‘thank you!’ I hope all our Mothers can enjoy love and blessings from their families on Mother’s Day and be spoilt with affection (and hopefully a little sleep-in).

A Mother’s Love

There are times when only a mother’s love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappointments
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a mother’s love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we’ve dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a mother’s faith
Can help us on life’s way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a mother’s heart and a mother’s faith
And a mother’s steadfast love
Were fashioned by the angels
And sent from God above.

It was a pleasure to welcome parents, grandparents and visitors to the Mother’s Day Liturgy and morning tea on Thursday.  Thank you to Deacon Trevor for coming along to lead us in the Liturgy, in Fr Joseph’s absence.  Thank you to the wonderful P&F for organising such a delicious morning tea.

Behaviour Management Plan

Staff have developed a revised Behaviour Management Plan to reflect our Student Code of Conduct, the Making Jesus Real Values Program, the Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum and the UR Strong Friendship Program.  Parents are encouraged to read through the plan and refer to it if there are any concerns about behaviours at school.  Please feel free to discuss any aspects of the plan with classroom teachers.  The plan can be accessed via the link:

UR Strong

It has been my pleasure this week to join classes that have begun the UR Strong Friendship journey and to observe the enthusiasm the students are showing about the program.   The students I visited could confidently talk about the 4 Friendship Facts and how these facts help with friendship situations.

There will be a workshop offered later in the term to provide parents with further information about the UR Strong Friendship Program.

Cross Country Inter School Carnival  – Change of Date

The date for the interschool cross-country carnival has changed since the Term Two Planner was published.  The carnival will now take place on Friday 19th May. Please note that the cross-country inter-school carnival is for students from Years 3-6.

Walk Safe to School Day

Walk Safe to School Day is next Friday 19th May. We have a number of students who walk, ride or scooter to school.  We will take part in the event this year and encourage as many students as possible to join in.  Parents may consider parking a short distance from school and walking in together to join in the fun of the morning.  Further information will be available through the Seesaw app and on flyers later on in the Newsletter.

I look forward to welcoming parents to the Merit Award Assembly on Friday 19th May at 9.00 am, prior to the students leaving for the Cross Country Carnival.

I wish all our Mums and Grandmothers a very special Mother’s Day on Sunday, full of love and joy.

Warm regards
