From the Principal – Term 3, Week 8

Sep 7, 2023

Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School would like to acknowledge the
Traditional Owners of the land,
the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation
and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Here is the land, here is the sky.
Here are my friends and here am I.
We thank the Whadjuk Noongar people
for the land on which we play and learn.
Hands up, hands down
We’re on Noongar ground.

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff, and Students

National Child Protection Week

National Child Protection Week is a great time to consider how we all play a part in fostering a safe and supportive school community for our children.  We have all heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child”, and during National Child Protection Week we should consider how it is the responsibility of all adults to ensure the physical, emotional and psychological safety of every child in our community.  They all deserve to be championed, and respected and know they are valued members of our school.

We ask you God, to strengthen and guide all in our communities.
Grant us wisdom in our time to make decisions that protect children and the vulnerable.
May our families and communities, through love, generosity,
commitment and patience build stronger communities safe for children.
Let your grace and love fall gently upon our children
giving them the inner strength, peace and resilience they will need for their life’s journey.
We ask you God to help our communities to be resolute in building communities
where our children both flourish and are safe.
We pray this all through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Before and After School Care 2024

We will be offering out-of-school hours care commencing in January 2024.  The service will be available for students from Kindy to Year 6 and will be available each day during term time.  The facility will be managed by Extend Out of School Hours Care and the children will be cared for on-site.  Care will be offered before school from 6.30 am and after school until 6.00 pm.  A letter explaining the new facility will be coming home very soon.

Intentions for 2024

Parents of students who are not returning to Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School in 2024 are kindly requested to inform the school as soon as possible. We have wait lists of families wishing to enrol their children in most year levels. It is important we give them as much notice as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation with this.

PP And Year 1  History Incursion

Our Pre-Primary and Year 1 children enjoyed playing with toys and games from the past during their History Incursion this week.   I am sure there are plenty of Mums and Dads who would be familiar with some of the toys the children had fun playing with.

Wow!  It is difficult to believe we are nearly at the end of Term Three, with only two more weeks until the holidays.  Where has the term gone?

Best wishes to Ms Sheldrick and the Year 6 class for their Class Mass next Wednesday.

Please join us for the Assembly next Friday. The Year 1 class is preparing the assembly and it promises to be an event not to be missed.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards

Therese
