Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Students
While the students were enjoying their pupil free day on Monday, the staff were busily engaged in professional learning to enhance their teaching and learning of Writing across the year levels. The teaching staff attended a professional development to learn about a Writing process called, “Seven Steps to Writing Success.” The professional learning workshop exposed us to a variety of techniques to transform the students’ writing. Writing improvement is one of our key improvement goals for 2021. The professional learning workshop has provided us with further tools in our tool kit to make the writing process fun and engaging. Our Education Assistants also participated in a workshop to develop strategies to enhance the valuable work they do with students in the areas of oral language, reading and writing.
It was most encouraging to see the number of parents come along to the Parent Information Evening on Wednesday evening. The class information sessions offer value to our parents as they inform and guide them in supporting the children with their leaning throughout the year. Sincerest thanks to the staff for preparing for the information sessions and for their flexibility with the change of date.
P&F Welcoming Night and Disco 5th March
Please bring the family and come along to the P&F Welcome Picnic on Friday 5th March commencing at 5.30pm. The parent reps organising the event have come up with lots of fun activities and food options for the evening. The DJs will have the disco music pumping and there promises to be plenty happening to keep the family entertained. A flier advertising further details will be made available.
Parent Coffee Morning 8th March
A coffee van will be available at school on Monday 8th March from 8.30am, courtesy of the P&F. Please come along for a coffee, once you have dropped the children at school. I would like to spend a few minutes, over a coffee, talking to our parents about our school improvement goals for 2021 and to show the first ideas and concepts for the Master Plan. The Master Plan is a plan of intended school development as we move now beyond our 30 years. This is an exciting time for our school and I value parent input into our future direction.
Every year, countless schools and parishes across Australia, turn Lent into a demonstration of faith, love and generosity. Our commitment through donations to Project Compassion make us part of this incredible community who believe there are simple actions we can take to “be more for our world.” When we donate to Project Compassions we put our compassion into action and help contribute to a more just and compassionate world. Thank you to our Year Five class, under the direction of Mrs Keddie and Ms Bettridge, for the cake stall this week to raise money for Project Compassion.
Lenten Prayer
Lord, teach me a new freedom.
Freedom to reject comparisons and to embrace uniqueness.
Freedom to cut ties with greed and to feast on love.
Freedom to abstain from over indulgence and feast on self-control.
Freedom to leave behind selfish thoughts and to focus on the needs of others.
Freedom to fend off insecurity and to embrace grace.
Lord, at this time of Lent,
Thank you for the freedom you bring.
Amen.
I look forward to welcoming parents and friends to our first Merit Award Assembly for the year on Friday 26th February commencing at 9.00am.
Best wishes for an enjoyable long weekend for Labour Day.
