From the Principal – Term 2, Week 9

Jun 26, 2020

Dear Parents, Friends, Students and Staff

Each fortnight at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School we focus on one of the virtues of the Making Jesus Real program.  It is when we practise the virtues that we can grow closer to God and be more like Jesus in our daily lives. The virtue for the final week of the term is, “Encouragement.” As Christians, we are called to encourage others.  St Paul encouraged the believers,

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

We should all encourage one another through the time we spend together, encouraging words, prayers and actions.  The students are good at encouraging each other; we need to model encouragement to them regularly in order for the gift of encouragement to become a normal part of our interactions with one another.

Life is certainly feeling as though we are heading back to “normal” as restrictions are slowly lifted in Western Australia.  We are hopeful for a return to usual school procedures in Term Three.  A term planner will be sent home to parents next week as a guide to various events, including assemblies, masses and prayer liturgies appropriate to the various classes.  We are planning the Sacramental Program for Term Three and Four and are pleased that the students can receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation in Semester Two.  We are also pleased that the Year Six Camp can go ahead in Term Four.  The next two terms will be busy so please keep an eye on dates as they are outlined on the planner and in the weekly newsletter.

Week Nine Events

Next week, the final week of Term Two, will conclude with a few fun events.  We will have the coffee van at school again on Wednesday morning from 8.00am for complimentary coffees for parents, once the children have been dropped at their classrooms.

We will have a “Crazy Socks” fun day for all classes.

  • Tuesday 30th June: Pre-Kindy class can wear crazy socks to school.
  • Thursday 2nd July: Kindy class can wear crazy socks to school.
  • Friday 3rd July: PP-Yr 6 can wear crazy socks to school along with their usual Friday uniform.

The Derby Day Canteen special will be available on Friday 3rd July.  The students are encouraged to order an Eagles or Dockers Burger for lunch from the canteen.  Orders need to be placed by Tuesday 30th June.

Let us hope that both the Eagles and the Dockers can have improved results this weekend.  I am sure we are all keen for a WA AFL victory!

Warm regards
