Making Jesus Real – Week 7 Term 4

Our focus value this fortnight is CHEERFULNESS.

Cheerfulness is an expression of joy and as such is commanded of all followers of Christ:

‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: rejoice!’

(Philippians 4:4).

There is something wonderfully contagious about cheerfulness: cheerful people can trigger a chain reaction in which other people are encouraged to be positive and cheerful.  At Assembly on Monday, the children showed this by smiling at one another and everyone couldn’t help, but smile back.

The message of Christianity is “good news” to share with others. Good News is cheerful, joyful and happy.  So, go out, be of good cheer and share the joy that God gives.

ADVENT

This weekend marks the start of the Church’s new year, with Advent.  One of our most treasured traditions is the Advent Wreath, which helps us to reflect and prepare for the feast of Christmas.

Week 1 is the Candle of Hope

Like the prophets in the Old Testament, we hope for a Messiah to save us, and we look forward to the arrival of our Saviour, Jesus.

The first candle, is lit as a sign of our hope

  • For what do you hope for personally?
  • For what do you hope for in the wider world?
  • Other than presents what is your real hope for, this Christmas?
  • In what ways might you and your family be a sign of hope in the week to come?
