Making Jesus Real 2021

This fortnight our new focus value is COMPASSION.

Understanding, empathy, sensitivity, mercy, kindness and generosity, are all a part of showing compassion.

As we Make Jesus Real each day, some of the ways we show compassion are when we:

  1. Do nice things for others without expecting something in return;
  2. Say encouraging things to cheer others;
  3. Show interest in others by asking how they are;
  4. We listen with an open heart and ears;
  5. Respect the privacy of others and avoid gossip;
  6. We reach out to others in need.

One of the ways that our community shows compassion is through the support of PROJECT COMPASSION.

This week the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.

We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each family will receive a Project Compassion box in the coming weeks (bit of a hiccup in postage from Sydney) for their donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: lent.caritas.org.au    We are encouraging the children to give up one treat a week and donate that small amount of money to Project Compassion.

Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s:

“Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”
