Year Three Good News

The Year Three class have been busy working on line drawings!

Condolences

On behalf of the school community, I offer condolences to the Bootland family for the recent passing of their Mother and Grandmother.  Our prayers and thoughts are with Jenny, Michael, Jake and family during this difficult time.

Welcome New Staff Member

This Term we welcome Candy McKay, Transforming Lives Education Officer, who will be working at Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School for a few weeks each term.  Candy has been employed as a shared staff member between four Catholic Schools in our region.  Candy’s position is to assist school improvement through an Aboriginal Education lens and to work with the school and the local community to ensure Aboriginal students have equitable access to a Catholic Education.  Welcome Candy!

Parent and Teacher Interviews

Parents are reminded that we have an early close on Thursday 30th July at 12.00pm for parent and teacher interviews.  Thank you to our parents for booking in appointment times.  Please contact your class teacher directly should you require an alternative date or time for a parent and teacher meeting.

Pupil Free Days

We have one Pupil Free Day scheduled for Term Three for staff faith formation professional development. This will be on Friday 25th September.

Tree Planting Morning

All students, from Pre-Primary to Year Six, will participate in a tree planting morning at Ollie Worrell Reserve, adjacent to the school oval, on Friday 31 July.  Students will be accompanied by their teachers.  A total of 400 trees have been most kindly provided by the City of Kalamunda and Steve Irons MP, for us to plant around the reserve.  If possible, please send gardening gloves for the children to wear while they participate in the tree planting activity.

Parents and Friends

The P&F Association enjoyed a productive meeting on Wednesday evening.  Thank you to those parents who come along in person and those who managed to join the meeting via Zoom.  The P&F are committed to supporting a nature playground development in 2021 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the school. The nature playground will be designed in consultation with parents, staff and students and be available for all our students to enjoy.  The P&F will be setting an agenda of activities for 2021 and would like ideas from as many parents as possible.  New ideas are most welcome.  The planning process will take place over the next few meetings so there is plenty of time to see your class reps for any ideas you may have.

Enrolments 2021

Thank you to parents and grandparents who recommend our school to others in the community.  We have had a few enrolments over this past week that are a direct result of an existing family recommendation.  Your positive and kind words to others about the school are greatly appreciated.

We are currently focusing our enrolment efforts on Pre-Kindy for 2021.  Please encourage family members, friends and neighbours to consider Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School for Pre-Kindy.

Absentees

Parents are reminded that absentee notifications need to be sent through to the administration office prior to 9.30am in order to avoid an SMS message being sent out.  Parents emailing their class teacher about an absentee are asked to copy the administration office email into the message.
